The last two days outfits have been remixes as I’m attempting to shop my closet. Its been in the back of my mind for ages that I have more than enough clothes. The realisation that I have a laundry basket full of clothes to be ironed and still have enough to wear and even forget what all I own is proof enough.
So in an effort to reign myself in, I’m putting myself on a clothing diet. I am not going to say that I won’t buy anything and least of all will I say that I won’t buy shoes, because I do still need a new black pair as well as a navy pair … and of course, if I find genuine leather boots at a phenomenal price, I will need to buy them, but I really don’t need much in the way of clothes. There are a few ‘key/classic’ items I’m still looking for, but the buying on impulse, the buying because I’m : bored, scared, tired, lonely, frustrated, defeated, empty, angry (or is it just plain greedy?) needs to be stopped. And as for shoes, I don’t need another pair of sandals, but do need a few pairs of closed pumps/court heels for winter.
Gobble gobble gobble is not a pretty thing. I had a tight reign on this for years, but when certain things in my life changed drastically, I resorted to shopping and despite knowing on a certain level that it does not take the pain away, does not fix anything, I became rather addicted to the whole emotional high of the ‘shopping experience’. Looking back, it’s as though I lost control of myself. But there are things I’m hankering after and can’t justify purchasing them when I’m spending the amounts I am on my closet. I want to have enough money to travel to the USA when I finally get the call from my DD telling me the wedding date is set; the studio lights and dishes and backdrops, the backup camera, the software, the professionally designed website, the MAC … etc. etc.
I am drawn towards sites such as My year without clothes shopping, The Great American Apparel Diet and although not about clothing per se, The Power Less (see this link for Leo Babatuas book, Thriving on Less, which is a companion book to the Power of Less and downloadable for F.R.E.E.!).
As Sally (TGAAD) said in one of her posts … I am set on stopping the crazy consumerism that occupied my thoughts and actions.
I don’t want to share here what I pay back on storecards monthly, but it’s rather obscene. Lets put it in these figures … the studio lights I’m intent on purchasing equates to 6 months payments on my storecards!! How can I possibly say I can’t afford them?
