I haven’t posted much on here about my Weight Loss/Getting Fitter/Healthier journey of late and thought it was time I did. It has, along with regular gym sessions and Park Runs/Walks, become a hugely important part of my life.

It started off, much like how I quit smoking, as something that bothered me on a subconscious level. Once I started seeing results, its become more and more a part of my daily life. I quit smoking because I was feeling so unhealthy, didn’t like the stigma and smell anymore and wanted to feel better.  I was tired of coughing and having a sore chest. I’ve been asked many times how I quit.  What I tell people who ask is that the process of quitting smoking started three years before I actually quit. I read suggestions on how to quit, joined a forum, read articles, looked at medical options and eventually settled on the most natural process I could find.  I don’t remember the website I read that inspired my final journey, but it seems to be along the lines of Smoke Enders. It worked. But as with all new habits, you need to start the work in your head first. Determine why you want to quit? What’s your personal goal for wanting to quit smoking, lose weight – if at any point, in answering the question, you use the words “them “they” “he” “she” “my husband” “wife” “children” “mother” “doctor” etc. etc. then close the page and walk away! You’re unlikely to do it, or to succeed – possibly for a short time, but in the long run, you’ll most likely go back. Your answer needs to use “I” “me” … it’s all about YOU and only YOU.

I didn’t like the woman I saw looking back at me in photos and the mirror and eventually decided around October last year to start getting real.  I made some comment and Schatz said well, since you’re home, you can go to gym any time.  I hadn’t actually given myself permission to do that, but I once I started, the seed began to germinate and now it’s a little plant shooting through the ground.  I signed up at Weigh Less (Discovery Vitality points helped motivate that decision) and eventually got my head sorted and starting going to gym a little more regularly.  I added workouts from Blogilates on and off.  I also started doing the Park Run (but yes, I walk folks) and am loving them.  The time outdoors in a farm like setting just invigorates me.

Finally, after another thyroid test which came back as under the previous test, my doctor put me on a course of Eltroxin and suddenly my energy levels rocketed and some of the weight finally started shifting.  It was the extra motivation I needed.

I started then thinking about having some personal training sessions, but while waiting for the Universe to deliver my promised income, I had to find an alternative way to pay for the sessions.  Its amazing how you find the Universe positions the things you truly desire and makes it available in the most interesting ways.  I was chatting with two of the trainers who mentioned wanting to have a photo shoot done.  A couple days later, the one said they had checked out my site, but I had one zero too many on my price.  It opened the door for me to suggest we trade – they do the assessment and give me some personal training and I do their shoot.  I’m very open to the idea of trading and I think we’re going to see lots more trading in this style.

The guys accepted, I’ve done their shoot, and so far I’ve had a session with each of them.  Its more structured and they make sure you’re doing the exercises correctly and they push you a little harder than you would doing it alone.  If you can and you’re serious, I strongly recommend the personal training route.

My hints for the days

  1. Decide on the life you truly want, start taking steps to create it and start to fall in love with your life.
  2. Start believing that everything is possible.
  3. Find a dream to chase.
  4. Take your health seriously, get checked out by your doctor.
  5. Start making the time for gym, don’t make excuses, make a plan.
  6. Get serious about what you’re putting into your body, when and how much of it.
  7. Ice cold water people – ice cold!
  8. Set a goal and determine how you will reward yourself – not with chocolate, that’s too easy.  How about that pretty dress, killer heels, sexy handbag or gorgeous hair colour … whatever it is that inspires and motivates you.
  9. Start listening to yourself and how you talk about yourself.  Start changing the dialogue.
  10. Don’t judge ‘them’ – rather let them inspire you.

Final word

If you know what you want; if you’ve made up your mind; if you can see it, feel it, and move toward it in some small way every single day… it has to happen.

Wow, that’s great that you were able to trade services!

Working with a trainer is the best .. they always push you to do “one more” and it’s that one more that gets the results.
