gymselfieI had only two gym visits this past week as I was a little demotivated and otherwise occupied and I had not intended going yesterday but decided to go after I dropped the boys at school and boy am I glad I did.  Its so easy to get out of the routine, but I truly always feel so much better once I’ve been, even if all I do is 20 mins on the elliptical walker.  Yesterday though, Jurie spent a little time with me and busted my triceps, biceps and shoulders.  I feel much better for it though.

In the afternoon I decided to do my Vitality health check.  All is good.  I visited the Clicks Clinic at The Glen for the first time and the nurse who was there was such a sweetie.  Thanks Phumzile.

Body Mass Index
Body Mass Index (BMI) indicates your weight in relation to your height. Your BMI of 24 indicates that you  are normal weight and your risk is average. In addition your hip-waist ratio also need to be considered.

Cardio 5 Yr Risk Gaziano
This is a non-laboratory based Cardiovascular Event Risk Assessment. You have a LOW predicted risk of  a cardiovascular event in the next 5 years (between 5% and 10%). You need to maintain a healthy life style. It is important to note that this assessment does not include other specific cardiovascular risk measures such as cholesterol and glucose.
Ref Gaziano, TA, Lancet March 2008

Blood Pressure
Your blood pressure 120 / 78 level is acceptable. You need to reassess your blood pressure at least once a year if no other cardiovascular risk factors are present.

Waist Circumference
Your waist circumference is 77 cm. American health guidelines use a waist circumference of 88 cm to predict the occurrence of a medical condition called insulin resistance in females. European guidelines, however, are less lenient, using 78cm as the cut-off point. This implies that you are not currently at risk but be aware of the condition and relationship to waist

Glucose (non-fasting)
You have a normal non-fasting glucose level of 4.4 mmol/L, which is below the 11.1 mmol/L risk level.  Please return to the clinic annually to re-assess your glucose. Ref SEMDSA

I’m happy with the results and to see that the Vitality Age Calculated on their site has finally gotten lower than my age and no longer higher, as it was last year.  I do want to get my BMI a little lower and the next assessment I’d like to do is a Fitness Assessment with a Biokineticist.

I’m well on track with my fitness goals and about to start upping the amount of gym workouts and intend to keep improving on my Parkrun times and I’m curious, how are your fitness goals for the year shaping up so far?

Sista, I used to poo poo the comments that it improves your mood and gives you energy and and and .. until I got into it. I think its the best anti-“all-that-ails-you” ever and I get how people become addicted.

      Just got to do it!
