The real amazing thing is that it’s just 1 year until I turn 50.  I can’t believe it.  So I thought I’d share 49 thoughts on things I love, like, despise and dream about.

  1. Daunting and scary as it is, on a daily basis, being Mom to four different, challenging, inspiring loving beings has made my life complete.  But its the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
  2. I love that each of my children are individuals.
  3. For years I hid from the world, but now I find life a huge adventure.  Taking chances, changes, daring, trying, loving, leaving, building, destroying, caring, sharing – all awesome adventures.
  4. I instinctively feel a need to motivate those around me.  Whether it be simply to smile, cry, care, do … It feeds my soul.
  5. Photography.  I love capturing moments in time.  Often less than perfect and at times sporadically.  I love photos.
  6. Watching people in malls.  Oh my, if only I could get paid to do it. Analysing people.  I have to do it.  I can’t not do it, I don’t know how not to.
  7. Gifts.  Giving and receiving.  I love both equally – oh okay, its often times nicer to receive than give, but gifting someone something they have wanted if so beautiful and receiving just as much.
  8. Music, like 99% of the planet, there is a soundtrack to my life.  Wow!  From soul, jazz, hip hop, rap, classical … on and on.  I’m amazed at the effect music has on our souls.
  9. A traumatic childhood, heartbreaks, miscarriages, leaving, being left.  Its all helped grow me into the woman I am today.  I’m a survivor.
  10. Forgiving.  I’m big on it.  I forgive!  I don’t forget, but forgiving I’ve learnt truly does free the person doing the forgiving.
  11. Admitting mistakes.  Its never easy, but its the greatest sign of maturity.  I own my messes, mistakes, missed opportunities and failures.
  12. Flowers.  I love flowers, Roses, peonies, alstromerias, gladioli.  But I prefer them potted nowadays, they last so much longer.
  13. Lying in bed with candles burning.
  14. Taking a long shower.
  15. Red painted toe nails.
  16. Handbags.  They’ve only become an addiction of late.
  17. Clothes.  Oh my!  A friend saw my double rail (shhhhhh I have a wardrobe as well)  and said she did not realise I was a hoarder :gasp: I’m not a hoarder, I’m a shopper.
  18. … and shoes.
  19. Quotes.  I eat them up, daily.  For motivation.  For fun.  For a laugh.
  20. Don’t make promises.  They’re almost always impossible to keep.
  21. Promises are not contracts.
  22. Your taste will change, in men, in food, in clothes.
  23. Heels elevate 90% of outfits.
  24. Few people, even those who have known me since forever, know that I’m very shy.
  25. You won’t believe how much you’ll change and I believe its our right to change.  People often expect us to still do, believe, behave and operate in the same way for years and years, if you do, you need to consider if you’ve grown at all as a person.
  26. Fake it ’til you make it.
  27. A walk on the shore can heal almost anything.
  28. Never say never.
  29. Look back, only to make sure you’ve learnt the lessons.
  30. You will never stop learning.
  31. Its great to own your mistakes.
  32. Taking care of your body is your responsibility
  33. Life is ‘so’ short.
  34. I’m a ferocious and fiercely protective mother.
  35. I love watching people,  Letting my mind create their life stories.
  36. My circle is small – very small.
  37. Mostly women consider me a ‘bitch’ when they first meet.  Once I allow them to get to know me they find I’m an extremely loyal friend.
  38. I do not know how to mince my words well.  I try though.  Its hard. Its frustrating, I feel false.  But I’ve learnt a lot and try hard.
  39. I love getting dressed up.  I love being well dressed.  I love this quote by Coco Chanel  “I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little — if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny”.
  40. My hair is part of my style.  I am a Leo after all.
  41. Make peace with your hair.  For years I tried to make my straight hair curl.  Oh, the frustration.  The tears!  The hours of styling and tons of styling product, and all it took was one good gust of wind or one drop of water and all the hard work was for naught.  The sooner you learn to work with your hair, the better.
  42. and the width of your hips.  Love your curves, or the lack thereof.  If it really bothers you, there are ways of dressing what you perceive as imperfections and exercising can help equal out all inequalities.
  43. Always know that you are important.  Always remember you count.  Don’t ever forget that.  Moms are notorious for doing this.
  44. I have zero tolerance for martyrs.  Its not pretty,  It does not make me feel sympathetic.
  45. I love greeting little people.  They remind me I’m a good person.  When you look into the eyes of a little person, they project back to you who you are.  They see your soul.  I love that.  I love the recognition in their eyes.  I love how deeply they look.  They have nothing else to judge you on.
  46. I love technology.  I am wild about the internet.  I’m a little envious that we did not have all these means of communication when we were younger, but I’m sad that some use it is used as a tool to bully others.
  47. A real hug can heal a multitude of hurts.  There are two, or maybe three people in my world whose hugs fix me.  I miss them in the intervals when we’re they’re not here to put me back together.
  48. If my life ends tomorrow – I believe I did good.  Overall, I had a good life.  I believe I lifted others, extended a helping hand, lit the candles, pointed the way.  Sometimes our purpose is just to be the pointer in one persons life.  To be their champion.  To shout praises at them and about them.  It just takes one person!
  49. My intention : another Coco Chanel quote You can be gorgeous at thirty, charming at forty, and irresistible for the rest of your life.   I hope when my soul finally leaves this vehicle, that those who were part of my journey will be able to say that I made a difference.

Heading to the big 5ooohhhh – watch out world, here I come!

Oh, you and me both .. I’m turning 50 next year too (ugh, did I just type that?).

    My fav:
    32. Taking care of your body is your responsibility
    37. Mostly women consider me a ‘bitch’ when they first meet. Once I allow them to get to know me they find I’m an extremely loyal friend.

37 is me too. I don’t know why I don’t make a good first impression. Maybe I’m not impressed with people I meet? I wish this was different about me, but it is what it is.

Great points, buddy. Thank for sharing. Don’t worry about 50; it’s just a number. You can still pretend to be in your forties. 🙂
